Today’s word(s) come from Psalm 43 The Message

Psalm 43 The Message1-2 Clear my name, God; stick up for meagainst these loveless, immoral people.Get me out of here, awayfrom these lying degenerates.I counted on you, God.Why did you walk out on me?Why am I pacing the floor, wringing my handsover these outrageous people?

3-4 Give me your lantern and compass, give me a map,So I can find my way to the sacred mountain,to the place of your presence,To enter the place of worship, meet my exuberant God,Sing my thanks with a harp, magnificent God, my God.

5 Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues?Fix my eyes on God—soon I’ll be praising again.[You put] a smile on my face.[You are] my God.

Today’s meditation word(s) is sacred mountain. In many Bible passages both Hebrew scripture and New Testament canon, mountain symbolizes nearness to God or the divine who believes to dwell in heaven. Abraham and Isaac climbed Mt. Moriah to offer sacrifice to God. Moses met God and received the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai. Elijah proved to the people that God is the one true God on Mt. Carmel where he called down fire from heaven. Jesus climbed Mt. Olives to pray to God many times.

Today, most people retreat to the mountains for adventure, entertainment, relaxation, peace and quietness, etc. And so do I. Whenever I retreat to the mountain, there is a sense of peace, calmness, and wonder. There is also a disconnect from crowds and electronics and active lifestyle. Maybe it is because of the disconnect that one can feel closer to God, the divine, the mystery or nature.
Where do you go and/or what do you do to feel God’s presence?

Blessings,

Pastor Eula
