Today’s Lenten word comes from Psalm 121 The Message

1-2 I look up to the mountains;
does my strength come from mountains?
No, my strength comes from GOD,
who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.
3-4 [God] won’t let you stumble,
your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.
Not on your life! Israel’s
Guardian will never doze or sleep.5-6 GOD’s your Guardian,
right at your side to protect you—
Shielding you from sunstroke,
sheltering you from moonstroke.
7-8 GOD guards you from every evil,
guards your very life.
[God] guards you when you leave and when you return,
guards you now, guards you always.

Today’s meditation word is guardian or guard. Other Bible translations use the words keeper and keep. The word came from the Hebrew word šāmar meaning to protect, to guard, to watch over, to take care of.

Scholars called this Psalm a soldier’s psalm or a traveler’s psalm. Whatever it is, the image is there is danger wherever we are whether we are aware of it or not. The Psalmist trusts God will protect the Psalmist in all situations. The Psalmist encourages us to put our confidence in God.

I agree God is our guardian, our protector, our keeper. Then, I ask myself these questions: Who is the guardian, the protector, the keeper, the watch person, the caretaker of all people who have been marginalized, or people who are marginalized? Where do I fit-in? What is my role?

Do you also ask these questions or similar questions?

Blessings,

Pastor Eula
