Dear FPCLA,
My Lola (grandmother) flew to the Philippines on Saturday. She’ll be there for more than a month. Before she left, she whispered to me, “Magpapalagip ako.” I do not know the exact translation but she is saying she will celebrate a day of remembrance. Usually, people are invited to pray and eat.
Honoring and celebrating our dead ancestors are seen as idolatry in some Christian communities. Every first Sunday of the month, we, FPCLA, observe communion. Some churches observe communion every Sunday or every time they gather. Communion is honoring and celebrating Jesus, Jesus who’s dead. So, is that called idolatry?
Meditation: Do you honor and celebrate your ancestor? How?
Blessings,
Pastor Eula
