Dear FPCLA,
In today’s Revised Common Lectionary Reading, Philippians 2:19-24, Paul is planning to send Timothy to Philippi to meet the community that Paul established there. In Luke 9 and 10, Jesus sent out his twelve disciples to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. And then he chose seventy-two and sent them in pairs to all the towns to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
The United States of America sent protestant missionaries to the Philippines after they took control of the country in 1898. Denominations joined and they agreed that each denomination will missionize on a specific part of the Philippines Island. Methodist missionaries were assigned to mom’s town in Guimba, Nueva Ecija and Disciples of Christ missionaries were assigned to my dad’s town in Ilocos, Norte.
I wonder if the missionaries whom Paul and Jesus sent to different towns have similar or different perspectives of God and Jesus’ teachings? Did they share their perspective?
Meditation: How did Christian belief spread in your family? What’s your Christian history?
Blessings,
Pastor Eula
