April 13, 2022 FPCLA Lenten Word Meditation

four community hands interlocked

Dear FPCLA,

My friend and I were talking about getting sick and trying to trace our steps where she got the common cold virus. It reminded me of the Fantastic Fungi documentary I watched. Shamans treated patients and the diseases were thought to be elements of the spirit world. Physicians today treat diseases and infections and their spirits are bacterias, viruses, and pathogens. So whether the shamans called them spirits or the physicians called them bacteria (viruses or pathogens), or scientists called them microbes, they have their own microscopic universe that’s invisible from normal eyes. Science and belief are interconnected.

Allan Sandage who was an American astronomer said, “It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is much more complicated than can be explained by science. It is only through the supernatural that I can understand the mystery of existence.” Through science, we unveil God’s work.

Meditation: What do you think about science and belief (or religion)? Is there a science behind God or is there a God behind science?

Blessings,
Pastor Eula
